Pastor Steve Larson
Why did you initially come to EV Free?
I didn't come to EV Free. In October, 1978 (wow that's a long time ago) Connie and I moved into the Conejo Valley with the dream of starting a new church. That dream led to EV Free. Serving here over the last 30 years has been an amazing privilege. As great as the last 30 years have been, I believe that our greatest days are still ahead!
What is your role?
My role is fairly simple. To teach the Word of God to our church family in a way that helps people LEARN AND DO God's Word. (Luke 6:46-49) My passion is that people would see the blessing of living in obedience to the teaching of Jesus in every area of their lives. In addition, I provide strategic and doctrinal leadership to the staff and I work together with the Board of Elders to shape and carry out the vision of our church.
What was your reputation in High School?
Actually, I was a bit of a ladies' man. I loved to date although it was more "friendship dating" as opposed to romantic stuff. I was also on Student council, and our speech team.
What makes you laugh?
Stupid movies like Blazing Saddles and blooper shows and videos. If you're ever in my office, ask me to show you the funniest sermon blooper I have ever seen!
Other than the Bible, what books have had the greatest influence on you?
Two books: Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan and The Effective Executive by Peter Drucker. Pilgrim's Progress gave me a clear picture of the fact that life is an ongoing struggle with many foes who seek to derail me in my journey towards Christ. The Effective Executive helped me to understand that busyness does not equal effectiveness.
If you could have any super hero power, what would it be?
No question about it: Flying. That way, I could avoid airports.
